Two of the world’s wealthiest people have proposed that Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) turn its headquarters into a shelter home to address the issue of homelessness.
Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) founder Jeff Bezos on Sunday approved a suggestion proposed by Elon Musk, who just became Twitter’s largest shareholder, to transform the social networking company’s San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter because few people are working there during the flu pandemic.
Bezos tweeted a May 2020 post from the technology-focused site GeekWire on Amazon’s eight-story family homeless shelter next to its Seattle offices, stating the idea worked out beautifully and made it easy for staff who want to help.
Bezos also proposed turning at least a chunk of Twitter’s headquarters, if not the entire building, into a homeless refuge. Musk concurred in a subsequent tweet, calling it a “Great concept.”
Musk, who has over 81 million Twitter followers, launched a poll on Saturday, asking fans to vote on whether the building should be transformed. In less than a day, the poll received over a million votes, with more than 90% voting yes.
Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk, who routinely tweets about his business and other issues, has been known to leave people perplexed as to whether he is kidding. Musk, on the other hand, confirmed that he was not kidding this time. “I’m serious about this one, btw,” he tweeted on Sunday, following up on the matter.
Musk also held a supplementary poll on Sunday, asking if the letter “w” should be removed from Twitter’s name, with two voting options: “yes” or “of course.”
Musk proposed a slew of modifications to Twitter Blue’s premium membership service on Saturday, including lowering the price, prohibiting advertising, and allowing users to pay in the cryptocurrency dogecoin.
